Analysis of Currency Drops From 100 Mao Kun Runs – PoE

After having completed my league end game farm objectives I decided to once again create an MF windripper, but this time expressly run Mao Kun, the unique Shore Map. I have run many more Mao Kuns than just the 100 I recorded currency drops for in the spreadsheet. At first I used my secondary currency stash tab to calculate profitability on a 10 map run basis. This was in order to learn whether running them at their current market price was profitable at all. After the first few 10’s, it was clearly evident that they were profitable and I stopped calculating my profits on the fly and just ran. After obtaining obscene amounts of wealth from these runs, I decided to get definite values for profit, so I decided to record the important currency drops in a spreadsheet. This excluded unique drops that were valuable like Kaom’s Hearts etc.

I found that the “big” drops in this recording were on average quite a bit lower than what I was used to receiving from the map. I had once gotten 3 exalt drops from the last boss in a single run. Crazy right? xD But that’s RNG, and you will have your own. I’ve also handed in about 7 Abandoned Wealth sets. My IIQ in total for two 8% Ventor’s, Sadima’s touch, Goldwyrn and a Windripper was: 67. I also used a 48% Bisco’s Collar. I share this here so anyone can make an informed decision on running these for profit. If you are looking for an answer to profitability outside of Bestiary league, simply adjust the map asking price to the current league’s market price and then adjust each currency’s chaos weighting at the bottom of the document.

Quick conclusions for the 100:

  • 1739 chaos profit from currency drops
  • 183 chaos per hour
  • Still very profitable without the “big” drops even happening
  • Only 6 of the maps had a breach, so that puts it at a 6% spawn rate in the sample
  • Largest contributors to profit were unsurprisingly: Chaos Orbs -> Journeyman’s Sextants, Fuse and Alchemy Orbs
  • The average map cost for you to break even would be 35 chaos, with the bad luck I had on these 100.
  • So from a pure running for the bonus experience standpoint, this is a good map to run.
  • I went from level 93.5 to 95 with these 100

General Recommendations For Progressing Maps In PoE

In Path of Exile, this league has been particularity bad for a lot of people. Last season I had no trouble getting into T13, T14 maps. I got into T15 but couldn’t sustain them. The following are some general recommendations for progressing maps:

1. Run Bloodlines on maps you want to get the next tier. It increases the number of blue monsters by a good amount, increasing your odds at a +1 map.

2. Chisel – I typically chisel maps where I know I want to progress it. I never chisel maps 2-3 tiers lower than I want to be in. Mostly I save them for an unlocked map I want to drop in adjacent maps, or T13 where and my T14 pool is empty.

3. If you are not SSF, you can always push T9 – T10 pretty hard as blue maps, and sell items to buy higher tier maps. It’s annoying to have to buy them, but if you can produce enough money from item drops, use it to fund you map pool.

4. Sextants have changed, but they are still useful. I look for a mod that adds more monsters. Keep in mind. Beyond monsters do not drop maps, so rolling beyond is useless when looking to progress maps.

5. Don’t forget to use atziri fragments for more quant. other things to note, If you just feel like you need a small pool of red maps to be able to get it going, try running uber lab. There is a chest that can spawn which will drop like 3-5 t11s-t13s. That helped me alot early on.

6. Trading is a pain, but honestly you should be able to get a reply within 2 or 3 people for maps. Try and get the maps you need to complete a tier and run those until you run out. Then buy what you need for the next tier and run those along with the ones you found for the next.

7. Basically try not running a new tier of maps until you have most or better yet, all of the maps of that tier. It makes it a lot easier to get that 1 map you need when it’s the only one of that tier that can drop.

Why Add Incremental Rewards Is Necessary In PoE

In Path of Exile, many players have been complaining about layers of RNG and the lack of “incremental rewards”. What are Incremental Rewards? Breach Splinters, Harbinger Shards, and Divination Cards are good examples of incremental rewards. Rather than having a 0.01% chance of dropping a Breachstone from a Breach mob, you have a 1% chance of dropping a Breach Splinter.

Why do people want Incremental rewards?

While I’m sure there’s a strong argument to be made that people want PoE to be a more rewarding Skinner Box, I think that the actual reason is much more simple: economy. Incremental rewards are a method of income redistribution.

Let’s take a casual player who plays an hour a day and accumulates 10ex or so by the end of the league. Now let’s clone her a thousand times. Let’s say the chase unique is worth 100ex, and RNG dictates that only one of these players will get that poe items. So one person ends up with 110ex for the league (becomes quite rich), while the rest of the players get nothing.

Now let’s make that chase item have a div card which you need 100 of to make the item. Instead of one player getting the entire item, each player would average out to 1/10th of the item (10 cards each). So instead of one player being at 110ex and the rest being at 10ex, each player ends up at 20ex (with variance, more like 18-22ex).

What’s important to note here is that these players would never be able to afford that chase item. I’d be surprised if even 5% of the player base has enough currency at league end to purchase a mirror, for instance. But doubling their income will allow them to get to their build faster, or try twice as many builds as they usually would, just by selling off these cards.

A lot of more casual people want to try some of the end game content, but if you’re only making 10ex a league, dropping 1/10th of your wealth to attempt a shaper run seems like a heavy price to pay when you’re unlikely to make back that money. Let alone if you aren’t sure if you can do the fight! This applies equally to going heavily into a shaped map strategy with sextants or the like – if you get unlucky while running the first set of maps, you will see your pool dwindle and can lose that investment.

Making sure that there are more incremental rewards in the game, especially involving league mechanics, will allow more players to be able to engage with the game more. And that’s good. And adding incremental rewards doesn’t mean you have to dole out more stuff, you just have to distribute it better.

How Can You Level Templar In Path Of Exile

3. Defense: The build paths near plenty of life nodes and its recommended that you pick up several of these while leveling then unspec out of them later when you swap into pure ES. How many you get will depend on how squishy you are comfortable being. I recommend picking up mind over matter while leveling especially if you are already using the Perandus rings. While using mind over matter the only auras you would be using are clarity and discipline so it can absorb more damage.

4. CI: When your Es is large enough that things are not hitting through it and making you rely on life as a backup swap mind over matter into CI. I generally swap sometime after level 60 when I have enough gear to reach about 5k ES. Just keep a life flask on you and watch for chaos damage.

5. Jewels: If you don’t have good jewels while leveling then don’t take the jewel sockets yet. While leveling defense is more of a concern so life and resistance will be more appealing.
